Job Summary:

Pratt & Whitney's Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering module is seeking for a highly motivated Structures Engineer. The MSEN department works with different components of the gas turbine engines: Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles. Mechanical Systems include: Bearings, seals and lubrication systems, externals include: ducts, tubes and brackets, then the nacelle and engine mounts. Our mission is to be the recognized leader in the design, development and support of reliable, best-in-class architecture for the working components. The design goes from concept to detail design. The structure discipline is focused on performing structural analysis to both mechanical systems and external components to understand the effects of loads, forces and temperatures on working components, with the purpose of ensuring their safety and functionality. General Finite Element Analysis modeling is required to be able to perform studies on day-to-day work.

Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis of both Externals and Mechanical systems hardware through both preliminary & detailed design, validation, certification, and support of manufacturing and operational service.

  • Participate as the structure’s representative on multi-discipline integrated product teams providing design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.

  • Validation test coverage (both engine and rig) consisting of live monitoring of instrumentation response relative to applicable limits, post processing test data, and evaluation of test data relative to program requirements.

  • Support in-service field investigations.

  • Use FE and classical methods for strength, stress/deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.

  • Work to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.

  • Document analysis results and present conclusions to PW management and external customers.

  • English (read, write, speak) is required when communicating with customers, co-workers, or supervisors who only speak English

  • Travel is up to 10%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering and 2 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree in Engineering with GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge on Externals and/or Mechanical Systems engine components

  • Theoretical to advance knowledge on Structural engineering through degree and experience
