Director, Revenue Recognition
Job Summary:
We seek professionals with progressively responsible financial leadership roles experience to join our growing team. The position is a key role in the global accounting organization. It works closely with the global commercial, operation, and FP&A teams on revenue transactions and related accounting matters. This newly formed position will be responsible for accurate worldwide revenue accounting and ensuring consistent application of accounting guidelines. In addition, this position will provide guidance to the commercial and planning teams on how certain terms impact revenue recognition under US GAAP. This position will interact with the Company’s auditors with respect to all revenue technical accounting matters.
We are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and experience in revenue accounting. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to work independently, and have a strong understanding of US GAAP principles. This individual will communicate with several departments in order to gather, review, and analyze letters of intent (LOI’s), revenue contracts, and or change orders. The successful candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily to meet the qualifications required to perform this job successfully.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Partners with the commercial, operations and FP&A teams on all matters relating to revenue contracts
Guides the commercial team on contract negotiation and proactively addresses technical accounting issues
Supports and memorializes Company’s accounting conclusions on all revenue recognition maters under US GAAP
Resolves all technical accounting matters working with our external auditors
Works and supports the Accounting Team to ensure timely and accurate revenue accounting under US GAAP and adheres to our close calendar timelines
Works closely with the revenue team to review and approve contracts and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Prepares and maintains documentation of revenue recognition policies and procedures and ensure that internal control policies and procedures with respect to revenue accounting are followed
Designs and owns certain key controls over the revenue cycles
Supports monthly close activities and reviews non-routine revenue-related journal entries
Manage reports and analyze results to make recommendations to business leaders
Works with cross functional teams to ensure accurate estimated cost of completion and accurate forecasting of future revenue based on the accounting standards
Instill a mindset of continuous process improvement consistent with accounting principles, corporate policies, and government regulations
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent, is required
CPA or Chartered Accountant certification is required
7+ years of Rev Rec experience and well-versed with ASC 606 Revenue Recognition, with 10+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience.
Excellent communication skills and ability to breakdown complex US GAAP Revenue recognition rules for the commercial and FP&A team
Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
A stronger team player that is a highly motivated self-starter
Ability to maintain a cooperative and professional work relationship with internal and external partners
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
Ability to work effectively across multiple organizations
Ability to work in a fast paced, growing company environment
Preferred qualifications:
Big 4 public accounting experience is preferred.
Industrial experience is a plus
