Amazon Front-End Engineer II, Amazon Timestream in Dublin, Ireland

Description

Amazon Timestream offers fully managed, purpose-built time-series database engines for workloads from low-latency queries to large-scale data ingestion. With Amazon Timestream for LiveAnalytics, you can ingest more than tens of gigabytes of time-series data per minute and run SQL queries on terabytes of time-series data in seconds with up to 99.99% availability. It has built-in time-series analytics functions, helping you identify trends and patterns in near real time. With Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB, you can easily run open source InfluxDB databases on AWS for time-series applications, such as real-time alerting and monitoring infrastructure reliability, with millisecond response times. Timestream for InfluxDB provides up to 99.9% availability.

The team is looking for a front-end engineer to work on building and maintaining new features for the Amazon Timestream console and contribute to other team-owned components. You will be involved in designing and developing new features and will also support existing features of the service and management service console.

If you are excited about building new user experiences and modernize existing software stack to delight our customers, then this role is for you. We are looking for a new teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated and reliable; someone who will help us build on the positive team culture that we have been cultivating.

Utility Computing (UC)

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Key job responsibilities

  • Take end to end ownership of the software development life cycle: You will build and maintain solutions for the Amazon Timestream console and contribute to other components owned by the team. This includes design, testing, code reviews, and deployment.

  • Drive operational excellence, improving the quality of services and components owned by this team.

  • Influence and contribute to the technological roadmap of your team.

  • Work with other AWS teams across the globe, driving innovative solutions.

  • This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every 2 months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night and so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause and ensure issues are closed.

A day in the life

  • Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members. We are a team of enthusiastic engineers who enjoy helping new and and junior engineers grow through one-on-one mentoring and thorough code review. The team is co-located in Dublin, Ireland and our core office hours are from 10am to 4pm, although there are some who come in early and other stay late to overlap with our teams in Seattle and Vancouver.

  • On any given day, we use JavaScript, React, Node.js, Python, Java, SQL as well as a few other public AWS services and a host of Amazon-internal tools. We don’t expect you to be an expert in, or necessarily even be familiar with, all of the technologies listed above, but we do expect you to be excited to learn about them!
