Job Description

Communications Representative 9-P11

This position is responsible for webmaster duties for the Department of Natural Resources Forest Resources Division (FRD). This position develops and maintains the division’s web and Intranet sites. This position ensures that web content is up-to-date, responsive, accessible, easy to understand, and fits division and department guidelines. Using traditional and innovative communications and messaging skills, this position will design web structure and content using the State of Michigan content management system. The position will also be responsible for optimizing photo, audio and video files for the web. This will involve a variety of assignments to prepare and disseminate informational, educational and promotional materials related specifically to FRD and post this information, as needed, on the division’s website and maintenance of the FRD Intranet (SharePoint) site. This position will also incorporate internal communication functions and reporting, such as staff newsletter, weekly updates to leadership and annual quarterly work planning.

Possession of a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, public relations or a related field.

Three years of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials equivalent to a Communications Representative, including one year equivalent to a Communications Representative P11.

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.

OR

Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 16 semester (24 term) credits in any combination of coursework in the following areas: English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, marketing, or public relations, AND two years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.

OR

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience equivalent to a Communications Representative may be substituted for the education requirement.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
