Mechatronics combines mechanical engineering, controls engineering, software design, electronic hardware, sensors and electrical harnesses. A challenging assignment when the department is responsible for safely starting, running and stopping a truck. This includes responsibilities from the batteries to the starter motor, to the engine and transmission, to the instrumentation and safety systems such as radar-based collision mitigation and wireless telematics with GPS, and to finally safely stopping the vehicle with an Antilock Braking System.
The Body Controller Team in Mechatronics Engineering is responsible for developing and integrating intelligent Body Controllers and Power Distribution Modules. This components control many basic vehicle functionalities like exterior and interior lighting, powernet management, drivetrain controls, and dashboard switches. Development is done within a global team of specialists covering all brands of Daimler Trucks and Buses to share designs, experience, and knowledge. This team works closely with customers (internal and/or external) to implement and verify software features, hardware requirements and ensure that controllers are programmable in the factory and serviceable in the field.
Develop Software models to implement Mechatronics features into global electronics platforms, using a Matlab/Targetlink toolchain
Collaborate with global development teams at MB Trucks and FUSO in feature planning, specification, and implementation
Guide Mechatronics feature owners to develop, author, and validate implementation specifications
Perform network communication design, SW model development and code generation in alignment with global development team Germany, India, and Japan
Perform feature and system troubleshooting and analysis on test benches and test vehicles using Vector tool suite (CANoe/CANalyzer)
Manage Body Controller parameters in collaboration with component and feature owners
Develop bench testing strategy and concepts and align with global team
Manage development and maintenance of automated test cases to evaluate the quality of each software release
Manage test activities with local component and feature owners
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
BS/BA and prefer 2-4 years of relevant experience or 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree is required
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is required
Experience in model-based software development is required
Experience with vehicle systems development and testing is required
Experience with identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems is required
Experience with component bench testing concepts, planning, and execution is required

Typical Minimum Experience Preferred (Desired Skills/Experience)
Knowledge of Commerical Vehicle systems is preferred
Experience with Matlab/Targetlink is preferred
Experience with CAN and LIN based vehicle systems is preferred
Experience with vehicle diagnostics using UDS is preferred.
